Unheard Studio Residency is an artist-led initiative for Bangalore-based contemporary dancers who wish to develop new work and push their artistry and physical boundaries through movement research. It champions play and experimentation. This one is for dancers to just DANCE!
The two-week residency includes
- 20 hours of studio time for self-directed rehearsals.
- A feedback session in a small group.
- Workshops in creation (choreography, composition, and chance procedures), production (lighting, sound, costumes, scenic design, and interdisciplinary collaboration), technique (improvisation, Cunningham Technique®, and Alexander Technique), finance (budgeting, Excel, and advocating for fair pay), and communications (writing and talking about dance, including an artist bio, artist statement, piece description and credits, and grant proposals).
- A work-in-progress showing for the public.
Unheard Studio Residency is facilitated by Joshua Sailo, Dayita Nereyeth, and Bharavi. It is made possible with the support of Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore, Dhurii, Shoonya – Centre for Art and Somatic Practices, and the artists/audiences of Codabloo and Studio 2B.
The first iteration of Unheard Studio Residency was held in October 2024.
